amur tigers

The Amur tiger (or Siberian tiger) is a subspecies of Panthera tigris tigris in the Siberia region of Russia and northeast China. It used to be found on the Korean peninsula, but tigers living there have been eradicated during the era of Japanese rule (1910-1945). The amur tiger is closely related to the (now extinct) caspian tiger. In the wild, there is low genetic diversity, unlike in captivity. This likely means that the subspecies has experienced a recent genetic bottleneck due to humans. The amur tiger is a rusty, yellowish-orange with a white underbelly and stripes all over. The largest amur tiger recorded in 2019 was thought to weigh 384.09 kg (846.8 lbs) and 3.4m (11 ft) from nose to tail. The average male is 160-190 kg (352.7–418.9 lbs) while females are around 110-130 kg (242.5–286.6 lbs). Males are usually 3.3 m (11 feet) while females are usually 2.6 m (8.5 feet).
